The Certificate of Discharge issued to VX45011, Jack Hamilton CURRY, 7 Battery on 10 August 1945. Jack Curry was captured on Crete and spent the majority of the war as a prisoner of war in Germany, which explains the significant difference between the 35 “Days In Australia” and the 1,652 “Days Outside Australia”.
The Certificate indicates Jack Curry was a member of the Australian Imperial Force for a total 1,885 days, which included 1,687 days on active service, in and out of Australia.
All persons crossing the equator for the first time were presented with the “Ancient Order Of The Deep”. This is the Order received by Jack Curry on his way to the Middle East on board His Majesty’s Troopship, the Arundel Castle.
