For the third time in the fifteen years since the descendants of former Service members assumed responsibility for the management of the 2 /3rd Australian Light Anti-Aircraft Regiment Association, we have a new President.

David McDonald, son of RW (Bob) McDonald (Signals) was elected President of the Association at the Annual General Meeting held on 22 April 2023. David assumes the role following the resignation of Anne Rae (daughter of CJE Rae (9th), who served as the Association President for nine years from from 2014 and Lynton Rose (son of Clive Rose (RHQ), who served as President from 2008 to 2014.

Malcolm Wrigglesworth, son of WA (Bill) Wrigglesworth, elected as the Association Secretary in 2014, retains his role.

Similarly, Ian Campbell, elected as Treasurer of the Association at the 2022 AGM, retains the Treasurer's role.

David McDonald also retains his role as the Association's Research Officer, and former Secretary and Treasurer Colin Bragg continues to be responsible for the production of the Association's annual newsletter "Take Post".

Hellenic Commemorative Medal

The Association became aware of this medal through an article which appeared in the September 2013 edition of the RSL magazine, "Mufti".

All surviving WW2 veterans (or their descendants) may apply for the medal if they or their parent / grandparent served in the Battle of Greece and/or the Battle of Crete.

The Association has initiated discussions to establish the process involved in applying for the medal.

We have been advised that Full Service Histories will be needed to prove the bona fides of the applicants.

We were also advised that the Hellenic Commemorative Medal is not a new medal and was first announced some two years ago in 2012.

Because of the direct involvement of 7 Battery in the Battle of Crete, the Association believes the majority of the remaining surviving members of 7 Battery, as well as the descendants of deceased members, would be eligible to apply for the medal.

More detailed information will be added to this page as it becomes available, but in the meantime, general information may be obtained from Steve Kyritsas, President, Hellenic Sub-Branch on 0418 571 800.

Regimental Rolls in alphabetic and Service Number sequences have recently been added to the web site. Both Rolls include the following information:

State of enlistment

Service Number

Name and Initials

Rank (where known)

Battery or Section (where known)

Whether the member was Killed In Action or was a Prisoner of War

The Rolls are located under REGIMENT MEMBERS on the Home Page.

A brief description of how the Regimental Roll was compiled is included under "The Regimental Roll".

The Association would welcome any information which would help us fill in the gaps in the Rolls.

Information that Neil has gathered has a prominent place in the excellent 2010 book by Maria Hill: Diggers and Greeks: the Australian campaigns in Greece and Crete, UNSW Press, Sydney.
